For the average investor, opting for an ETF is the simplest and least risky means of gaining exposure to the companies in the index. You can always try to duplicate the Nasdaq 100 or the Nasdaq Composite yourself, with individual stock purchases. But it probably would be more efficient to invest in an index fund that tracks the market’s indexes. The DJIA is a price-weighted average of 30 significant stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the Nasdaq. It measures the performance of some of the United States’ biggest blue-chip companies.
